MINDCARE, the first in our series focusing on The Four Aspects of Health & Wellbeing, covered mechanisms for cognitive support, stress reduction and mood, energy, clarity and focus, as well as meditation and gratitude.

Today, we're spotlighting BODYCARE, and highlighting specific rituals, products and services that will help to support your body generally (both internally and externally), especially during times of stress, chronic illness, targeted imbalances, symptoms of sickness and menstrual discomfort.

HEALING HANDS

Our practitioners have a wealth of experience and knowledge, working closely with individuals to get to the root of their issues and imbalances in order to provide long-term relief. We can attest to the magic of their nurturing, healing hands while creating a warm and welcoming environment so that you are able to relax on a deep level during treatment.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine, supporting the smooth flow of "Qi" in the entire body through the insertion of needles along various meridians. By releasing holding patterns, acupuncture restores the body and helps with both mental and physical disharmonies. Kelly Sherman, our Licensed Acupuncturist and founder of Wax and Wane Wellness, has a passion for helping patients integrate the wisdom of the traditional healing arts into today’s fast paced lifestyle and modern approach to healthcare. Kelly’s style of acupuncture incorporates gentle needling with combinations of body work, tuning forks, moxibustion, aromatherapy, and glass fire cupping, along with nutrition and supplementation therapy depending on individual needs. Areas of specialty include stress management, anxiety/depression, fatigue, chronic pain, food sensitivities, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and menstrual irregularities.

Massage Therapy, as touch is a very important aspect to healing, especially through massage. Whether it's Swedish, deep tissue or sports massage, facilitating movement through soft tissue work is another way to restore the body back into balance. Anita Morgan, our in-house massage therapist, has worked with all types of clients with issues ranging from rotator cuff injuries to prenatal and postnatal to plantar fascia pain, marathon training to recovering from knee or hip surgery. Her clients prefer her heavy, consistent pressure and intuitive approach to treating chronic pain, injury, stress, depression or sluggish circulation. "Massage helps us reconnect mind and body which can be empowering to the client and I'm lucky to be witness to this reconnect."

IMMUNE SUPPORT

Since illness seems to be going around like the plague this season, it's best to support your immune system daily as a preventative measure, however, when sickness hits (usually hard and fast), these remedies are ideal to have in your home apothecary for effectively speeding along the recovery process.

Anima Mundi Herbals SOMA Elixir, as the medicinal properties of this wild-harvested formula are known to protect health and vitality, soothe the lungs, support the immune system, enhance the digestive system and act as an antibiotic, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-parasitic. An easy to use daily or as-needed formula containing reishi, chaga, maitake, shiitake, lions mane, agaricus, schizandra berry, rose petals and rose geranium.

Dao Labs Immunity Support is an effervescent formula that helps to strengthen your immune system against airborne, seasonal and environmental invasions. One of the most popular formulas across Asia, it’s the go-to for cold and allergy seasons, or any time one’s immune system needs defending.

Kung Fu Tonic is a highly concentrated blend of hot roots and powerful herbs that is great for flu season. Containing organic apple cider vinegar, heirloom garlic, onion, ginger, horseradish, cayenne pepper, sea salt and oregano oil, it truly delivers and lives up to its name, and can be taken straight up, or infused in salad dressings (something we found to personally taste amazing).

Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C is a fundamental ally, as Vitamin C is needed by the body to support the immune system, connective tissue and skin, and to recycle glutathione. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C may help to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, as environmental exposures to free radicals occur every day (cigarette smoke, air pollution, and UV light from the sun). This specific type of Vitamin C uses a unique liposomal delivery method to support optimal absorption, where liposomes may be better absorbed across cell membranes in a way that is not possible for ordinary water-soluble or fat-soluble nutrients.

Wooden Spoon Herbs Elderberry Sumac Syrup is a must-have for any herbal medicine cabinet, as it's highly effective during the crunch-time of coughs, colds and flus, yet handy enough to keep around for daily use. One teaspoon every hour supports acute situations, while one teaspoon daily is wonderful for preventative measures.

MENSTRUAL SUPPORT

Our clients and customers expressed positive feedback about our previous post on this subject, and we deem it important to resurface as a part of our BODYCARE series - especially in what has become a very hormone-disruptive society that has seen a surge in hormone dysfunction, especially among women. These powerful mechanisms of support are a few that we've identified to significantly help women through menstruation.

Alexis Smart Moon River Flower Remedies are targeted towards supporting hormonal balance where symptoms include monthly emotional discomfort and hormonal changes including PMS, pregnancy, post-partum and menopause. By taking these remedies consistently, marked improvements have been reported by our community and can continue to be taken as needed to support the body through physical and emotional changes.

De Lune Menstruation Tonic just reformulated their product to be even more potent and effective in alleviating the symptoms of dysmenorrhea (period pain). A host of organic herbs (including cramp bark, motherwort and Dong Quai) are infused in an easy-to-use liquid formula that can be added to water or your favorite tea. This potent tonic replenishes your body with nutrients lost during menstruation while delivering anti-inflammatory herbs, some of which have been shown to be as powerful as conventional painkillers.

SHE SALVE with Wild Yam Root & Geranium was purposefully created for women to bring balance and harmony to those suffering from premenstrual and menopausal symptoms. The two main ingredients of wild yam and geranium, known to be potent hormone balancing ingredients, are combined together in an organic blend of shea butter, olive oil, comfrey, lavender, peppermint, cedarwood and chamomile essential oils. Find balance and relief by massaging directly over your lower pelvic region, where your reproductive organs sit, to soothe the onset of any menstrual discomfort throughout your monthly cycle.

Wooden Spoon Herbs Moontime Magic is another potent formula that includes cramp bark, wild yam, yarrow and motherwort to calm a spasming uterus, allowing you to take some time for rest and rejuvenation. 30 drops every half-hour helps to relieve menstrual cramps, or 30 drops 2-3 times daily helps to relieve PMS. Their Mugwort Oil also helps to soothe moontime cramping when applied to the lower abdomen, and is a wonderful addition to any massage treatment just before or during menstruation.
