An Ayurvedic cleanse is a gentle and safe way to regain digestive balance, clear toxins, improve mental and emotional wellbeing, and gracefully transition from one season to the next. We are offering a personalized whole foods cleanse protocol based on traditional Ayurvedic practices as we transition from one season to the next. Spring is a wonderful time to give the body the chance to reset and let go of accumulated toxins that we tend to accumulate during the winter months. For many people a cleanse like this greatly helps ease the symptoms of seasonal allergies.
When you register, you will be given two forms to fill out that will be used to asses your Ayurvedic Dosha (or constitution), as well as any current imbalances or symptoms that you may be experiencing.
Prior to the start of each cleanse, there will be an information session at Boketto with Maris Mendez where you will be introduced to the philosophy and techniques behind an Ayurvedic Cleanse.
You will be provided with all of the essential ingredients, oils, spices and tools that you will use during your cleanse as well as an easy-to-follow recipe to prepare Kitchari (a combination of rice and mung dal that you will be eating for three meals a day during your cleansing period).
A private consultation with Maris will take place prior to the cleansing period, where together, the two of you will be able to craft an individualized daily routine of self massage, breathing exercises and yoga that will be balancing to your constitution and will be specific to your goals, and personal schedule.

Q + A
Who will be facilitating this program?
Maris Mendez is a local Richmond yogini who grew up in a family of meditators, and practices an Ayurvedic approach to health and life in general. She is the mother of two wonderful children and is trained as a yoga teacher, a doula, and as a Vortex healer. She has a passion for mind/body wellness, gardening, dance, healing foods, herbal medicine, and showing up in the world as present as possible. Maris has personally used this approach of Ayurvedic seasonal cleansing for many years.
Who is this cleanse appropriate for?
This approach is generally regarded as safe for anyone unless you have an acute medical condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Traditionally in Ayurveda this type of whole foods cleanse is recommended four times a year as the seasons change for the general population, and is especially beneficial for anyone whose digestion is not optimal and for women that are planning to become pregnant in the future, or who are trying to conceive.
Are there any negative side effects?
The cleanse is designed for people that live busy lives. It is deeply healing and at the same time very gentle and generally safe. Very few people experience negative side effects unlike other more aggressive cleanse approaches. If you do experience any uncomfortable side effects, you can simply choose to stop the cleanse or reach out for support to modify aspects of it.
You want me to eat what three times a day?
Kitchari is a combination of rice, yellow split mung beans and Indian spices. It is very easy to digest, so it gives your digestive system a break and a chance to heal. It is balancing to all three doshas, and it is a perfect protein. Most people find it very tasty and deeply nourishing, in fact I have never met a person who did not like the Kitchari that I have prepared....or at least no one who has ever admitted to not liking it. If you get bored with the same simple flavors day after day, you can add things like lime juice, coconut, sesame seeds, cilantro, fresh ginger, and roasted root vegetables. Yum!
Do I have to commit to a full 7 days?
Nope. It is your body and it is your cleanse. If you decide that a three day cleanse better serves you or your lifestyle, awesome! If you want to start off doing one day a week for several weeks before you commit to several days at a time, sweet! We will work out the best approach for you.
Couldn’t I just do this at home by myself?
Yes! There are plenty of resources and information out there if you want to customize your own cleanse approach. The advantage of doing it with guidance is that all the leg work of gathering supplies, determining what imbalances are present, and coming up with a daily routine is done for you. You will have an experienced guide to answer any questions, and to help you every step of the way. And for many of us, especially if we are doing something entirely new, find it helpful to be a part of a group that will help support us as well as hold us accountable.
How much of a time commitment will the cleanse be?
This is totally up to you. In general, you will want to get plenty of sleep so that your body can do the deep healing work of clearing out any debris or stagnant energy in your system. So, if you have been burning the midnight oil, you may have to change your sleeping habits to allow for this. The preparation of the Kitchari is pretty simple and can be done every other day in less than an 45min. So depending on your cooking habits for most people they will be saving lots of time shopping, cooking, and cleaning. But if you still have a family to feed, this will take additional time. The other aspects of abyanga (self message), meditation, breathing and yoga exercises will take up as little or as much time as you decide serves you. But generally anywhere from 30minutes to 90 minutes a day.
What if I have never done yoga or meditation?
No worries. The practices will be suggested for your needs/ wants so if you would like an introduction to these practices, you are in the right place. Simplicity is a priority while on a cleanse like this, so there will be no intimidating or complex exercises suggested.
What if I am already a seasoned yogi or meditator?
Super! This protocol will support and enhance your practice.
Will I lose weight?
It is very likely that you will shed some pounds, but that is not the goal or the focus of a cleanse like this.
What if the dates outlined do not work for me?
If you would like to work with Maris individually to develop a personalized cleanse, you can contact her directly and find dates that she can support you. If you can find four friends that want to join you on your journey to free flowing energy, you and all of your friends will get the group rate for the cleanse.
May I receive a refund after reserving my spot, if I can no longer participate?
We do not offer a refund, however you may apply your spot towards a future cleanse with Maris or transfer your spot to someone else.
